The beast-like Harley Davidsons charged out of the Algarve like a stampede on Monday, after a very successful Fun ‘n’ Sun hosted in Monte Gordo last weekend. If there is a void in your heart now, don’t fret, they will be repeating this event for the next three years at least. So, when you hear a hum and a roar next year, know that the hungry Harleys are back!
Following these enormous machines was the swarm of Harley-aficionados, excitedly admiring the bikes and partaking in the festivities. After four days of preening and socialising, the Monte Gordo area was left bare and lonely, with dust and glistening metal in the distance.
This year’s event was made even more exciting with the prize of 10,000 euros given to the winner of the Custom Bike Show. Bikes from all over Europe, many of them custom-built, were entered into the competition to decide the most unique.
Music has always been one of the main attractions since the event started, and this year was no exception, with a Queen tribute band delighting the masses, along with The Kenny Jones Gang (former member of The Who). The tribute band theme continued with Logical Tramp’s homage to Super Tramp.
On Saturday morning, the sound of engines was heard as Harleys proudly paraded from Faro to Spain. With around 2,000 bikers participating, the event was quieter than last year and there were fewer stands, but that did not faze the organisers, as, according to them, “everyone had a wonderful time and will be returning next year”.
