Bike ride in aid of animal sanctuary

Eco Aid Algarve is a group of volunteers who have organised a two-day charity bike ride from Albufeira to Sagres on November 7 and 8 to raise funds and awareness for the Goldra Animal Sanctuary.

The 110km ride will follow a section of the new Ecovia bike route which runs between Vila Real de Santo António and Cape St Vincent.

The route will also run past the towns of Albufeira, Armação de Pêra, Lagoa, Ferragudo, Alvor, Lagos, Luz, Vila do Bispo, Sagres and on to Cape St. Vincent.

Cyclists will meet in Albufeira on Saturday, November 7, where all overnight baggage will be transported to the half-way overnight stop.

Maria de Lourdes, who runs  the Goldra Animal Sanctuary, desperately needs additional funding to continue her selfless work in providing shelter for 170 abandoned cats and 190 dogs and puppies.

The animal shelter is under serious threat unless more funds are raised to keep it running.

The sanctuary requires more than 200 euros a day to provide vet bills, food and vaccines for the neglected animals.

Eco Aid Algarve is looking for volunteer cyclists and sponsors who wish to be proactive participants in helping support the animal sanctuary.
