The Portuguese judicial system spent more on letters and rental costs than on judicial support in 2012, reported newspaper i on September 11. Trial courts alone spent €31.7 million in correspondence last year, according to the Justice Financial Management Institute. According to a report by the same institute, the ministry paid €45.9 million in judicial support in 2012, a decrease of €34.2 million (42.7%) compared to the previous year. On the other hand, expenses with mail and rents totalled €46.3m.
