Fairs and exhibitions park Centro de Congressos do Arade in Parchal, near Portimão is hosting a discount fair weekend between August 7 and 9 with thousands of last-season articles from across Portugal to be sold at reduced prices.
According to Banzai, the fair’s organisers, visitors will be able to buy a large range of items including clothes, accessories, shoes, home decoration, books, jewellery and much more.
“The fair creates shopping madness among the public, with around 20,000 visitors to each event and a balloon of oxygen to retailers,” said a spokesman from Banzai.
Facilities at the event include a lounge and restaurant area as well as a free cloakroom where visitors can leave their shopping bags.
Carla Sousa, general manager of Banzai, said: “Stockmarket is a unique event, which is why it is normally full. We felt the need to respond to the requests to increase the number of events and so have decided to start the fair near Portimão where we believe we will be closer to businesses in the Algarve and the public who is on holiday in this region.”
This initiative, however, has not been welcomed by all of the retailers in Portimão because of it’s timing.
ccording to the Associação Comercial de Portimão (ACP), Portimão’s commercial association, the fair could be detrimental to the city’s annual Stock Out discount fair, which is due to take place between August 27 and 30 along the riverside area.
Banzai has invited local retailers to take part in the fair and says that it concentrates on the sale of past season items so that the interest and sale of new items in stores are not affected.
Stockmarket will be open on August 7 from 5pm until midnight, on August 8 from 2pm until midnight and on August 9 from 2pm until 10pm.
Entry costs three euros per person, children up to the age of 11 and adults over the age of 65 as well as disabled visitors enter free of charge.
