Three bicycles have been donated to the Messines Bombeiros mentoring programme by FLIC (Funds for Local Identified Causes).
The charitable group was informed of this programme, whereby the fire officers ‘adopt’ a local child, giving them basic training in fire-fighting procedures and adventure trips. There was a shortage of bicycles, which limited the number of children that could participate in the adventures. Thanks to Intermarché, BikeSul, Algarve Signs and Richard Emrich, FLIC was able to acquire three bicycles, helmets and lights at a very competitive price.
They were donated to the Bombeiros on June 23 during the regional cadet training of the School of Infants and Cadets at Messines.
The latest event organised by FLIC, a mid-summer meal and music at Ti Raquel in Messines, was a success. The event was oversubscribed, with some 70 people attending. During the course of the evening, attendees were asked to nominate charities and causes which could be considered for donations. FLIC does not give cash to charities but goods that will help them with their work. A number of suggestions were put forward which the group will be considering in the coming days.
