Bet you can’t keep a straight face!

Aperitivo Performance Group’s Hamletarama!, being performed next month, has it all – three Ophelias, five Hamlets, two cleaning ladies and a cat.

Ophelia is one of the best known of the tragic figures in Shakespeare – caught between the pressures from her father and brother on one side, and the ‘madness’ of Hamlet on the other, and devastated by the shock of suddenly finding herself without support from any of them.

Selina Tartaglia and Meneca Bareilles brilliantly portray the traumatic effect of these pressures – and Otto Linden does an excellent job in keeping a straight face.

This idiosyncratic version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet retains the classic speeches, the graveyard scene, the Mousetrap play (using puppets) and the duel and death of just about everyone on stage.

Hamletarama! nwill be performed at the Museum in São Brás on Friday, March 16 at 1.30pm and 7.30pm and Saturday, March 17 at 7.30 pm. Tickets cost €10 and €8 for members.

The performance will then take place at the Casa do Povo in Moncarapacho on Sunday, March 18 at 9pm. Tickets cost €7 and members pay €5.
