Portimão museum has been nominated as a candidate for the European Museum of the Year award in 2010.
The museum was due to be visited last month by an international jury to evaluate its characteristics and qualities.
The winner of the annual award holds a Henry Moore trophy for one year, while certificates are also awarded to a small number of museums which are considered to deserve special commendation.
