Hotels in the Algarve just enjoyed their best February since 2007, according to the Algarve hoteliers’ association (AHETA).
Data shows that 48.7% of available hotel rooms were booked, a 5.4 percentage point increase compared to February 2019, a 2.1pp increase compared to February 2020, the last month before the restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and an 8.4pp increase compared to February 2022.
The impressive results were aided by increases in the Portuguese (+1.4pp compared to February 2020), Dutch, British (+0.9pp each) and American (+0.5pp) markets, AHETA adds.
Meanwhile, the tourist areas of Portimão/Praia da Rocha (+16.5pp), Monte Gordo/VRSA (+11.1pp) and Tavira (+7.2pp) registered the biggest increases in bookings.
This follows the region’s impressive results from last month, which was the best January for the Algarve hotel sector in 20 years with 36.9% of available hotel rooms booked.
