A “sold-out” Christmas Market that raised €6,000 for charity was held on November 19 and 20 at the Centro de Congressos do Arade in Ferragudo.
Organised by Rotary E-Club Porches International, with the support of Turismo do Algarve and the Lagoa Municipality, the event featured more than 100 vendors and attracted thousands of residents and tourists alike.
In addition to the many vendors offering a wide range of merchandise, Rotary members sold beer, cider and glühwein and ran a popular tombola.
Terroir Wine Shop and Kitchen in Carvoeiro and Asiana Caterers provided Portuguese and Asian cuisine so that shoppers were kept well fed as they selected their purchases.
Although it is not possible to know the exact number of shoppers, José Parreiro, manager of the Centro de Congressos do Arade, estimated that between 2,000 and 3,000 members of the public attended each day.
The club is hoping to receive sponsorship from Turismo do Algarve and Lagoa Municipality again next year, so that more funds can be raised for local charities. One of the beneficiaries this year was the old people’s home Lar São José in Ferragudo.
