A sea of people descended on the seaside town last Saturday
Carvoeiro’s Black & White Night attracted a “record turnout” of around 35,000 revellers, organisers have confirmed.
Last Saturday’s party has been hailed the “best ever”, helping establish itself as the event that kick starts the summer season in the Algarve.
Entertainment was in huge supply, with several stages set up along the town’s main streets (Rua dos Pescadores, Rua do Barranco and Estrada do Farol) as well as at the main beach square.
Most visitors also honoured the spirit of the party by dressing in black and white.
The party was kept going into the early hours at the famous beach, where DJ Deelight and singer Nicole Silver were in charge of the festivities from midnight to 1.30am, when DJ Overule and MC Landu Bi took over to keep revellers dancing into the night.
Carvoeiro Black & White Night was launched in 2014 with the goal of supporting the local economy and bring a new attraction to the picturesque seaside town.
“Restaurants and hotels registered a record number of bookings, some of which were made one year in advance, in order to attend one of the biggest events the country has to offer,” said Lagoa council.
Despite the record attendance, Lagoa Council praised the “lowest number of incidents” registered and the important role of security forces (GNR and private security) on the night.
The event has already cemented its place on the region’s summer programme, and a significant milestone is just around the corner as next year the event will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.
“My first words go to those who make these moments and events possible. My huge thanks go to all council workers, to the security forces, to the volunteer firefighters, to businessowners and to all the people of Carvoeiro,” said Lagoa mayor Luís Encarnação.
“This edition was, without a doubt, a huge success, thanks to everyone.”
The event is organised by Lagoa Council and IBéRICA Eventos & Espectáculos.
