Best European destination Porto featured in Algarve gallery

One of Europe’s oldest tourist destinations and rated as one of the best, artist Pat Bates would definitely agree. Her paintings currently displayed at Galeria Côrte Real in Paderne capture Porto’s quaintness and its charm.

A graduate with a BA in Art and Design, the artist has had three careers. As a teacher at Art College in the UK, working in the textile industry in prestigious fashion houses such as Zandra Rhodes and now as a full-time fine artist. Her recent paintings of Porto feature its architecture and the everyday existence of its inhabitants. Never over-romanticised her pictures are a realistic portrayal of a city with streets and esplanades that are full of traditional character.

Côrte-Real specialises in paintings that show all aspects of Portugal from its countryside and seascapes to its villages and cities. The work of more than 20 artists displayed inside the main gallery capture Portugal’s past and present.

Visit Côrte-Real’s pop-up gallery located above the estate agents Fine and Country in Carvoeiro.

The main gallery Galeria Côrte-Real is signposted from Boliqueime, Ferreiras and Paderne. It is open Thursday to Sunday, from 11am until 5pm.
