Tony joins a very illustrious group of 19 professionals who have been granted the title.
The criteria necessary to be considered for PGA Master Professional is as follows:
• Fully qualified professional for a minimum of 15 years.
• Held in high national or international esteem.
• Made a significant contribution to the development of golf.
• A leader in the field for a number of years.
• An innovator.
• Someone who has left their mark at conferences, through books, articles or videos.
An advisory panel, consisting of long standing members of the PGA, a representative from the golf industry, an advisor from the university sector and two senior members of PGA staff meet to lookover selections before making their recommendations.
“This has been quite a year for awards,” said Tony, who, earlier in the year, received another award, Commander of the Order of Merit from the then President of the Portuguese Republic, Jorge Sampaio, at a ceremony which took place in the Presidential Palace close to Lisbon.
When asked about receiving the recent title he said: “There are many excellent golf professionals around the world, many who are doing great work with young players, introducing new people to the game and helping raise the standards expected from golf professionals and amateur golfers alike, so to receive recognition that my work has been appreciated is very satisfying.” He went onto say that, “both awards are special, the title which I received from the Portuguese President was a great honour and something that carries its own responsibilities, while the award from my professional association and peers is very satisfying”.
Tony will be available for lessons in the Lisbon area (Estoril) on September 8, 14 and 15. Bookings are on a first come, first served basis. For more information contact: [email protected] or call 937 323 997.
