Portuguese champions Benfica are clear favourites to win the final four playoff of Portugal’s League Cup – the equivalent to England’s EFL League Cup – taking place later this month at Estádio do Algarve.
The semi-finals will see Vitória de Setúbal and S.C. Braga battle for a spot in the final on Wednesday, January 25 while Benfica will take on Moreirense the following day.
The final is scheduled for Sunday, January 29. All games begin at 8.45pm.
Benfica is by far the competition’s most successful team, with seven titles in nine runs.
Curiously the only two times the ‘Eagles’ did not win the competition, it went to Setúbal and Braga, two of the other clubs that made the playoff.
F.C. Porto and Sporting, which together with Benfica make up Portuguese football’s ‘Big Three’, were eliminated in the competition’s group stage.
Tickets, costing between €5 and €15, are for sale online and going fast.
