Benagil cave among 50 most beautiful places in the world

Benagil’s sea cave has again made an international list of stunning spots, this time being featured as one of the “50 most beautiful places in the world” by Condé Naste Traveler magazine.

The cave is placed fourth on the list, with a striking photo and a caption reading: “The southern coast of Portugal is lined with exquisite beaches and caves, including the famous Benagil sea cave”.

Benagil’s cave is one of many along Lagoa’s coastline, but certainly the most well-known and usually attracting hundreds of visitors during the summer.

Boat trips to visit the cave are offered at Benagil beach, as depending on the tide it might not be easily accessible.

In fact, a young couple had to be rescued from the cave in June after spending 12 hours stranded after a daring swim to visit it (see story ‘Young couple rescued after being stranded “for 12 hours” in Benagil’s world famous cave’ at

The hype around the cave is understandable, as it has already been named one of the ‘1o Coolest Caves’ by American online newspaper The Huffington Post as well as one of the world’s “Best Natural Wonders” by The Guardian.
