Belgium rejects Marcelo’s plan for Portugal Day celebrations

Belgian authorities have rejected a plan by President Marcelo for commemorations in Belgium of June 10 Portugal Day. Marcelo’s hopes had been to split his time on June 10 between Madeira and the Portuguese community in Belgium. But due to the pandemic, authorities in Belgium have said ‘now is not the time’. Instead, Marcelo – who has in the past tried to spend the day with emigré communities – will be limited to celebrations in Madeira.
