A 62-year-old Belgian man was killed in a motorbike accident last week in Sesmarias, Albufeira.
According to Correio da Manhã tabloid, the man lost control of his motorbike and crashed against the side pavement, and then against a traffic sign.
The tabloid adds that the man was not wearing a helmet.
By the time emergency services arrived, the man was already in cardiorespiratory arrest.
Resuscitation efforts lasted around an hour but were unsuccessful.
Says CM, the man owned a holiday home in the Algarve.
The crash happened at around 6pm on Friday (October 20) near the intersection between São Rafael and Praia da Galé. GNR police are investigating.
Data from Portugal’s road safety authority (ANSR) shows that 24 people died on Algarve roads between January 1 and October 15 this year.
