The first registered Portuguese Federation Croquet Club will open its doors on June 2, in conjunction with their Queen’s Jubilee party.
With 30 World Croquet Federation member countries, Portugal was accepted by all, as a new member this spring along with Russia.
Overlooking the exotic blue flag beaches of the Ria Formosa Islands, the club is nestled among seven acres of secluded tropical gardens with 360° views of coast and Oliveira filled mountain backdrops.
It will feature World Federation Ruled Golf Croquet, Association Croquet, plus local and international competitions on an elevated grass pitch.
For those less inclined to play croquet, various other options, including relaxing by the pool with a Pimms, playing petanque or badminton, swimming or indulging in gastronomic pleasures inside personal Moroccan tents set under the stars, are available.
The on-site Bistro Baltizaar, headed by Culinary Institute of America Chef and Maitre d’ Instructor, Sarah Byrne, prepares rustic Californian slow food cuisine and world Tapas, utilising fresh local produce.
The Croquet Club founder, Portuguese born Lita Gale, has dedicated her life to developing Portugal’s Croquet Federation, after committing more time in the Algarve from her busy London Solicitors firm.
The event will have a 1pm kickoff until dark and will cost €5 per person.
As the club is for private members only, all are asked to visit the Bela Romao Croquet website for further information on membership –
