Two dam projects in the Beira Interior region have been dropped while another – strongly contested by environmentalists – has been given the green-light. The dropped projects are Alvito in Castelo Branco, and Girabolhos in Seia, while the one allowed to go ahead, despite opposition, is Foz Tua. Elsewhere, three new dams along the Tâmego are being allowed through, so as not to incur €300 million in damages.
