Behind bars: suspected killer of Albufeira bouncer

Crime || Still sporting cuts and bruises from the bar brawl that left an Albufeira bouncer bleeding to death, 27-year-old Cape Verdean Valter Nunes appeared in court last Thursday (August 28) and has been remanded in custody.
Nunes is believed to be the assailant that weilded “a cutting object” that stabbed security man António Guimarães twice in the chest during violent scuffles outside Second Bar on the notorious Oura “strip” the week before.
Guimas, as he was known locally, died at the scene despite all attempts to save him, while Nunes and three friends who had accompanied him in the violence were all rounded up by police.
The court heard how Nunes had been operated for a “serious jaw fracture”, and was hospitalised for a week.
As the Resident reported after the killing, police were waiting for Nunes to be fit enough to be discharged in order to arrest him.
He will now remain in police custody while the investigation is brought to a close.
As news reports explained at the time, the incident appears to have been sparked by Nunes and his friends being barred from Second Bar, and seeking revenge.
In the violence that played out, a young barman was also stabbed, but he was discharged from hospital within hours of admission.
António Guimarães, known by many as a ‘peacemaker’, had been about to become a father when he was killed. His funeral went ahead on Saturday, August 23.
