Despite strong winds and high tides, the Association for the Protection of Animals in the Algarve (APAA) Pancake Day celebrations at the Hotel Garbe in Armação de Pêra were not entirely thwarted and in place of the traditional race on the beach an impromptu Beetle Drive took place indoors instead.
More than 400 euros was raised on the day with pancakes being sold by the hotel and all profits being donated to the APAA while a stall with marmalades, chutneys, books and other items also helped to raise funds.
Another Beetle Drive is due to take place tomorrow (Saturday) at Café-Bar Bacchus, Porches Pottery, from 6.30pm. Tickets cost 10 euros for members and 12 euros for non members and include a two course dinner and coffee.
