Analysis of water after the appearance of “dark spots” in the sea on September 14 at beaches on the Algarve west coast showed no signs of contamination.
Portimão and Lagos Maritime Police Commander Cruz Martins said: “The situation was detected in various parts of the west coast of the Algarve, between Odeceixe and Sagres.”
According to ARH, Algarve’s water authority, the analysis showed that the origin of these “dark spots” is connected to a phenomenon that causes the abnormal growth of algae.
