Praia da Rocha stages the 15th edition of the Beach Football Mini-World Cup from today (Friday).
This year’s tournament, at the popular summer resort for the fifth consecutive year, promises to be the best yet with the best national sides in the game taking on defending champions and hosts Portugal.
The action gets under way at 2pm with the South American showdown between Brazil and Argentina followed by Portugal versus the United States an hour later (3pm).
The second set of round-robin matches take place at the same times on Saturday afternoon before Argentina v USA precedes Sundays’ undoubted 3pm highlight between old rivals Portugal and Brazil.
To date these two sides have contested the final on eight occasions, with the 2010 hosts coming out on top in 2003, 2008 and 2009 while Brazil have claimed the title no less than ten times – the USA have been the only other winners.
Entry to the televised matches is free and as usual there will be plenty of sideshows and entertainment to compliment a great holiday weekend.
