Lagos Mayor has spoken of his concern for public safety on the beach of Praia Dona Ana in Lagos as works to replenish the sand and make safe the cliffs are delayed.
Júlio Barroso told Lusa news agency: “The beach is open to the public but it is considered to be predominantly a danger zone as because of the lack of sand, people sunbathe next to the cliffs.”
A sand replenishment programme began in November 2009 but was suspended after technical faults were found by the Water Institute (INAG).
