Once again the Portugal Masters will be taking place at the impressive Oceânico Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura between the October 15 and 18 with some of the biggest names in golf expected to make an appearance in the Algarve.
For those wanting to be more than just a spectator, this year organisers need 300 volunteers to take to the greens and fairways as marshals, scorekeepers and general helpers at this prestigious golfing event.
Sandra Slater from golfing society Golf for Greys is organising the volunteer programme this year through the Algarve-based society.
She told the Algarve Resident: “This is a chance for anyone to take part in the Portugal Masters. Volunteers need not be a member of Golf for Greys and don´t even need to have any golfing experience, although golfers would probably find the event most enjoyable, you simply need to be over the age of 16 and free for the dates of the masters.”
Not only are volunteers in the thick of the action they also receive the perks of an Ashworth uniform, a free round of golf at any of the Vilamoura Oceânico courses, free tickets for guests to come and watch the competition and a daily allowance for lunch.
Sandra Slater added: “This year we need 300 people to help as volunteers, the most we have ever needed. This is because the organisers are expecting this to be the largest Portugal Masters ever held due to it being held so close to the Race to Dubai.
“We are hoping that some of the big names will be out on the course as in the past we have seen stars such as Colin Montgomerie and Miguel Angel Jimenez take part.”
If you would like to become a volunteer, please call Sandra on 912 394 754 or alternatively email firstname.lastname@example.org. The closing date for applications is September 5.
The Golf for Greys society has more than 2,000 members with the majority of those being over the age of 50.
However, younger members and even juniors are able to take advantage of advantages offered by the society as guest members.
