A crown bowling facility, believed to be the first to be built outside the UK, is due to open at the newly opened Oceânico Amendoeira resort near Silves in March.
There are two new greens, one flat green which is 40 metres square and one crown green which is 37 metres square.
The official opening of both greens is to coincide with a week-long tournament between March 16 and 20, with a total prize fund of 5,000 euros.
Organisers of the tournament have invited 16 top UK bowlers to join the competition, including Graham Hickey, twice Yorkshire Merit winner, and other well known players including Lee Lawton and Brian Duncan.
Experienced and novice bowls players are invited to go and view the greens at a coffee morning, arranged for February 10 at 11am, before the official inauguration and competitions.
Cost of membership ranges from 75 euros to 480 euros per year. Entry to the tournament is 50 euros per person to enter one competition or 70 euros per person for both, either crown or flat.
