Bazaar success for Lagoa school

After a two-year break, the Christmas Bazaar at the International School of the Algarve, Lagoa, returned on November 27.

The event was hailed a success, raising almost €3,000 for orphanages in the Algarve.

“It was wonderful to see the whole school community working together so hard and for such a good cause,” said John Butterworth, the school head teacher.

Although the weather was not on their side, large numbers of students, parents, teachers and members of the public turned out to help on the day.

The school’s Parents’ Association was involved in the organisation and sale of food and drink at the bazaar.

Father Christmas was undeterred by the rain and appeared on schedule in his Grotto, assisted by his Elves, to deliver presents to the younger children.

All proceeds from the bazaar will now go to charity.  Th e Student Council decided to support three local orphanages: the Bom Samaritano in Alvor, Casa de Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Portimão and Pirilampos in Albufeira. Senior students and staff are discussing the various  needs of the orphanages so that the money raised can be put to the best possible use.

A number of local businesses donated prizes for the Grand Raffl e or sponsored the event in other ways. Th e school would like to thank the  following sponsors for their support: The Resident Group, Mona Lisa Restaurant, Joro Lda, Pizza Pronto, Algarve Cards, Wingarden, La Mangerie Quinta da Saudade, Natura Garden Centre, Kiss FM, Brilho Power Car Wash, Just White Bedroom and Bathrooms, Martinhal Resort, Griffin Bookshop, Quinta das Fontainhas, Algarve Chiropractica, Lara Beautician, Holiday Inn Algarve, Rajat the Garbe, Dr McKean Family Health Centre Albufeira, Clube Carvoeiro de Ténis, Goodwood’s Furniture and Decoration, Margareth’s Beauty Salon and Pedicure, Hotel Sheraton, Mr and Mrs Hawker, Mr and Mrs Kannabar, Open Media SA, Pure Image Portugal, C.S.
