Battle of the sexes

Results from a five-month online contest conducted in nine languages between men and women have shown women to be cleverer than men.

More than 15 million questions were answered during the competition, which was based on the popular board game Trivial Pursuit and started in October 2009.

Both sexes overtook each other constantly throughout the competition but, overall, women won with a total of 4,088,139 questions answered correctly compared to men’s 4,077,596 right answers.

The most popular overall category in the game was Entertainment, followed by Science and Nature, Sports and Leisure, History, Arts and Literature, Geography and finally People and Places.

Women were strongest when answering questions from Entertainment.

The next online battle planned is between the generations, between the under 30s and the over 30s, which is due to start mid-March, at www.trivialpursuitexperiment.com
