Battery recycling

A MASSIVE recycling point, ecopilha, has been unveiled in Lisbon to try and raise awareness of the importance of recycling everyday household used batteries.

The centre, which was revealed to the public in the presence of the secretary of state for the environment Humberto Rosa, is 40 square metres in area and situated in the Praça da Figueira until November 9.

Under EU directive all countries in the EU are required to recycle 25 per cent of all batteries sold each year, a goal that Portugal is currently attempting to achieve.
