AT THE World Cup in Japan, favourites US easily beat Germany 85-65 to set up a semi-final clash with Olympic champions Greece, 73-56 victors over France. In the other half of the draw, Spain and Argentina proved much too good for Lithuania and Turkey respectively.
Surprisingly, the Greeks overcame the American superstars 101-95 to take on Spain in the final. The Spaniards, led by Pau Gasol, had edged out their Argentine opponents by one point, and went on to triumph over their clearly favoured rivals, taking the title for the first time ever.
