Inspired by the delightful film Calendar Girls, a courageous group of women have decided to take the bull by the horns – or, in this case, the donkey by the ears – and bare all for charity.
They are busily producing 12 ‘tasteful’ photos of themselves, topless with the donkeys, to incorporate into a unique Algarve calendar for the year 2005.
Nana Van der Velden and bosom buddies of the Bamboo animal shelter hope that their venture will raise much-needed cash to sustain the hungry donkeys at Quinta da Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe – as well as a few eyebrows up and down the coast!
With luck, the unusual calendar will top everyone’s Christmas list, and travel further afield. “It is early days yet,” laughs Nana, founder of the refuge for abandoned animals, high up on a hill outside Raposeira. “And, at the moment, our biggest problem is getting the donkeys to pose!” Watch this space for further info…
