Barclays Bank received as many as 68 complaints from disgruntled clients every day last year.
Figures released by the Bank of Portugal (BdP) show that Barclays topped customers’ blacklists “in almost all areas of business”, writes Correio da Manhã.
Only in the sphere of mortgage payments did another bank (BIC) receive slightly more complaints.
In the sector of consumer credit, for instance, Barclays received 291 complaints for every 100,000 contracts. The average was 48.
And when it came to deposit accounts, the British bank raked in 121 complaints for every 100,000 contracts, when the average last year was 21.
Releasing the figures, BdP showed that customer complaints in general last year rose 15% in relation to 2012, with a total of almost 18,000 being received by the nation’s various banks.
Of this number, over half (52%) were found to be valid.
