Banda Filarmónica celebrates decade with special concert

Celebrating a birthday is even more special when there are plenty of people joining in to sing “Happy Birthday”. To this end, the Banda Filarmónica de São Brás de Alportel have joined up with an entire choir for the ‘Sound & Song in Celebraton’ concert on Saturday, March 25 at the São Brás de Alportel Museum at 6pm. Sharing the stage with the band will be the Coro dos Amigos, the choir based at the Museu de São Brás.

The performance will be led by trumpeter and maestro Albano Neto and it will mark the exact date of the band’s first ever appearance on March 25, 2007.

Since that time they have gone from strength to strength, and most of the proceeds from the concert will go to the band to make sure that this ‘upward and onward’ trend is maintained in the future.

The band is hoping to raise funds for new uniforms, so in addition there will be an opportunity for people either to make a small donation or to become band “sócios” (members).

The concert will feature a mixed programme of secular and sacred songs suitable for spring, from composers such as Elgar and Lopes-Graça, plus a selection from the band’s increasing and varied repertoire.

Tickets cost €8 (€6 for Amigos).
