A NON-profit arts organisation is presenting two ballet performances in Faro next week.
Fundação Pedro Ruivo is a foundation that aims to promote, nurture and improve the culture of the Algarve. It was set up in 1994 and attempts to cater for a variety of cultural activities, including ballet, opera and art exhibitions.
The foundation serves a dual purpose in the Algarve: to help preserve the cultural history and to promote the new cultural identity of the region that encompasses the diverse population of the area.
The two ballet performances, Don Quixote and Coppélia, will be performed at the Auditório Pedro Ruivo in Faro on May 29 and 30.
Don Quixote has been choreographed by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky and is based on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes. The performance is on May 29 at 9.30pm and tickets cost between 22 and 20 euros, with 10 per cent discount for under 20 year olds and over 65 year olds.
Coppélia is described as a “sentimental comic ballet” by the foundation and is based on the E.T.A Hoffmann story The Sandman. Hoffman was one of the key authors of the romantic movement of the nineteenth century and is famed for his fantasy writing that often veers towards the macabre.
The performance starts at 9pm at the foundation auditorium, with tickets costing 15 euros. All children under 10 will receive a 50 per cent discount.
Tickets are available for both performances from the ticket office at the foundation in Faro from 9am until 7.30pm or by calling 289 873 115
