Ball pool

LOS ANGELES Department of Water and Power (LADWP) have used 400,000 black plastic balls in an innovative water preservation measure at the Ivanhoe Reservoir in L.A.

It is hoped that the balls will shade the surface of the water and prevent sunlight-triggered chemical reactions that harm the quality of the reservoir water that supplies drinking water to 600,000 residents in the Los Angeles area.

The reservoir now resembles a giant ball pool but residents are assured their beautiful view of the reservoir will be restored to normal as soon as possible.

David Nahai of LADWP had the honour of throwing the first ball into the lake before workers released the other 399,999 down a hill into the water.
