Algarve residents are being asked to take part in the fifth annual backpack appeal, an initiative by Castelo dos Sonhos, a charity which supports underprivileged people in the Silves area.
Each backpack donated to the appeal will be given to a child starting the new school year and needs to be big enough to hold A4-sized books.
From August 21 stores and supermarkets across the region will be stocking the back to school ranges, alternatively backpacks can be purchased for four Euros each from Absolute Zero located at the Porches Retail Park near Alcantarilha.
Organiser Celia Mossman said: “Last year over 200 backpacks were donated, a record which we want to be able to beat this year.”
Donations to the appeal can be made up until September 6, with collection points for the backpacks at Castelo dos Sonhos in Silves, the Holiday Inn Algarve in Armação de Pêra and Absolute Zero.
