Every summer, Algarve children’s charity ACCA collects backpacks and school supplies and distributes them among hundreds of needy children in the local community.
ACCA efforts for Back to School Campaign are especially crucial this year. In light of the economic upheaval and health crisis Covid-19 has caused, your donations will be used to fund nutritious meals, educational supplies and other vital aid to help children get back to basics.
Many children only receive one free meal a day at school throughout the school year. Children living in poverty are especially vulnerable, needing the support of ACCA and the community’s help now more than ever.
Providing educational support has always been one of the main missions of ACCA.
The socio-economic consequences of the pandemic are challenging families across the community while schools have closed, after-school meal programmes have paused, businesses have shut down, and underprivileged families are feeling the strain on their already limited resources.
Wanda Crawford, president of ACCA, strongly believes education is one of the main gateways out of poverty. “An education, once achieved, is yours and no one can take it away from you. By pulling resources together, we can make a fundamental difference in the lives of these children in need in the Algarve. We need your help in any way possible.”
Donations are needed for all ages ranging from preschool to high school. Items needed include: new backpacks; coloured pencils; 24-pack crayons; erasers; glue sticks; highlighters and markers; loose-leaf paper; notebooks; binders; pens; pencils/mechanical pencils; pencil boxes and sharpeners; pocket folders; rulers; scissors; calculators; TI calculators for advanced high school science and maths (Texas Instruments).
Used laptops and tablets are also welcome as these have become vital educational tools.
