Back to jail at least till Friday for João Rendeiro

João Rendeiro has been back and forth to the courthouse in Verulam, South Africa, since his arrest last Saturday, but no decision is to be made on whether he remains in preventive custody – or whether indeed he remains an inmate at the country’s notorious Westville prison. The next court appearance will be on Friday, at which point bail terms proposed by Mr Rendeiro’s defence are to be considered. The former BPP bank president is said to want to move jails whatever happens. He claims to have received death threats and demands for money at the facility where he is currently held. Ideally, the man who left Portugual in order to dodge jail, hopes for freedom on the payment of a bail surety.
