Azeites Monterosa awarded international gold medals

Azeites Monterosa in Moncarapacho, Olhão, has been awarded with three gold medals at the prestigious New York International Olive Oil Competition, as well as winning a “Best in Class” award.
The winning olive oils were Cobrançosa, Picual and Verdeal, while Maçanilha was considered the best of the ‘Delicate’ class.
All in all, a total of 702 olive oils from all over the world took part in the competition.
Said the company’s chief Detlef von Rosen: “There is a lot of olive oil in Portugal but some of it lacks quality. I want Azeites de Monterosa to be recognised for their quality.”
He added that the “achieved excellence and prizes” make him – and everyone else who contributed to make his dream come true – “very proud”.
Interestingly, von Rosen first settled in the Algarve in the late 60s to produce vegetables and ornamental plants. But due to his success, he started expanding his business from ornamental plants to full-blown trees, such as almond trees, fig trees, and of course, olive trees.
