A fast painting competition that took place at Plaza de la Laguna in Ayamonte (Spain) on October 17 was a huge success, with 26 artists from Spain and Portugal competing for the prize of 1,500 euros.
The weather, which can be unpredictable in October, was glorious and from 9am until 2pm the artists painted their pieces from blank canvases all around the square in Ayamonte.
The theme for this year’s competition was Sister Towns Ayamonte and Villa Real de Santo Antonio and the rules were simple – the painting had to be painted in the open air from scratch and finished by 2pm.
Judges Juan Vazquez, Ignacio Rodriguez and Laura Rodriguez kept an eye on the proceedings and finally chose Emilio Borrego’s painting as the outright winner of this year’s competition.
