Scenes of panic played out in Mirandela courthouse last week after a man wielding an axe burst through the doors and advanced on staff inside.
Reportedly known to the court staff, the 52-year-old was upset by an order that he should see a psychiatrist.
“It was around 2pm when the man invaded the courthouse with the intention of harming us,” said a member of staff, lamenting the fact that the building has no effective security.
The man was later heard by the court and sent home with an order to remain resident at the same address. The axe was apprehended.
