RESORTS in the Algarve outshone some of the best property developments in the world to win a terrific haul of prizes at this year’s Homes Overseas Awards, known to those in the industry as “The Property Oscars”.
The winners were announced last week at a glittering ceremony held at London’s Dorchester Hotel with the awards being presented by four times Olympic gold medallist, rower, Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE.
The Homes Overseas Awards judge the best in newly constructed property in the top eight most popular destinations for Britons buying homes abroad (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, South Africa, the US, and Central and Eastern Europe).
Vale do Lobo led the way winning the Developer of the Year Award, gold for Best Portuguese Apartment, and silver and bronze awards in several other categories. Vigia Group’s Parque da Floresta scooped gold for their entry in the Best Portuguese House/Villa category, and the Best Retirement Development award was won by the Algarve’s Monte da Palhagueira Retirement Village.
There was also good news for Quinta do Martinhal, located in the Costa Vicentina Natural Park, which scored a double win with silver trophies in the Best Interior Design and Best Portuguese House/Villa categories, and Alma Verde Village and SPA which won silver for Best Environmentally Aware Development.
Other familiar Algarve names to receive awards on the night included Alconru SA which won silver in the Portuguese Apartment category for their Sunset Villas development in Vila Sol, The Emerson Group’s Boavista Golf Resort (bronze in Best Portuguese Apartment category) and Vila Sol (Bronze in Best Portuguese House/Villa category).
Organised by Homes Overseas Magazine and sponsored by The Daily Telegraph and British Airways, the annual awards are judged by a panel of around 40 industry experts including architects, surveyors and high profile journalists.
