Award-winning Russian pianist performs in Algarve

Internationally-famous Russian pianist Daria Tschaikowskaja will be giving two concerts in the Algarve in June. Taking place at Os Agostos country estate near Bordeira, the first performance will be on Tuesday, June 21 featuring music by Ravel, Rachmaninoff and Debussy, followed by a second concert on Thursday, June 23 with music by Chopin and Rachmaninoff.

Daria was born in Moscow into a musical family. She started playing the piano when she was six and enrolled in the Gnessin State Musical College for gifted children the following year.

In 1993, Daria made her concert debut with orchestra and enrolled in the Lubeck Conservatory in Germany as a young student. Also, in the same year she won the German Youth Musicians Competition repeating the success in 1996 and 1999 in both junior and senior categories. In 1996, Daria won the first prize at the International Steinway Competition in Hamburg.

Throughout her career, Daria has performed as a soloist as well as a chamber music partner around Europe and Asia.

Daria has attended many master classes with world renowned musicians including Claude Frank and Jiri Hinka. She graduated with a diploma from the Piano Academy in Imola, Italy and Conservatory of Cologne. In 2005 she won the First prize in the International Vincenzo Bellini Piano Competition. She completed her Master’s degree at the Conservatory of Cologne.

Daria gives master classes and also works as a jury member in piano competitions around Europe.

Organised by Amigos de Música, the concerts start at 7pm sharp with doors opening at 6pm. Wine, fruit juices and canapés will be served.
