Award-winning photojournalism exhibited in Portimão

Exhibition will be on display at Portimão’s Lota building

An exhibition of award-winning photographs from Prémio Estação Imagem 2022 Coimbra, considered the “main contest of its kind in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the few focusing on photojournalism in the world”, will be on display at Portimão’s renovated Lota building between August 20 and October 15.

The inauguration ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 19 at 6.30pm.

The exhibition will feature all the photographs awarded by international jury at the contest, which is open to Portuguese and Galician photographers as well as those from Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa and photographers of other nationalities who work in these territories.

Adra Pallón, a Galician photojournalist who covered various wildfires in Portugal and Spain in 2022, was the winner of the 13th edition of the contest with his photo “Lume e Cinza” (Fire and Ash), while Rui Duarte Silva, from the Expresso weekly newspaper, triumphed in the News category with “Ukraine: Marks of War.”

The jury also honoured photojournalists Leonel de Castro (Contemporary Affairs), José Sarmento Matos (Everyday Life), Brais Lourenzo Couto (Environment), Alex Paganelli (Portraits), and David Tiago (Sports).

The exhibition, which will be free to visit, is organised by Associação Cultural Música XXI with the help of Estação Imagem and Coimbra Municipal Council, while Portimão Municipal Council has joined as a partner.

The exhibition will be open during the following schedule: August 20 to September 3 (7pm to midnight); September 4 to 23  (4pm to 9pm); September 24 to October 1 (2pm to 7pm); and October 2 to 15 (10.30am to 4.30pm).
