Avenida da Liberdade less polluted

news: Avenida da Liberdade less polluted

LISBON’S AVENIDA da Liberdade is undergoing an intensive twice a day washing down in a bid to clear up grime and pollution.

The city’s dirtiest street has been the subject of a study to evaluate the impact of the cleaning on Europe’s most polluted street – if EU pollution monitoring is to be believed. During the cleaning process, the avenue will be hosed down at lunchtime and at night.

However, despite being known as the most polluted street in Europe, it’s not all bad news, since it was voted the ninth most glamorous street in the world, according to a study by Excellence Mystery Shopping, published in the Brazilian consumer magazine Veja. UK’s Oxford Street, France’s Champs Elysées and New York’s Fifth Avenue were also in the top five.
