Autumn theatre

For the seventh year running, Portimão is staging an Outono do Teatro (Autumn Theatre) festival between October 22 and November 14. Throughout the festival, the city will play host to professional and amateur theatre companies, which will form six theatre groups performing 11 pieces.

Highlights so far have included Inês de Portugal by the Manuel Teixeira Gomes School Theatre Group, which opened this year’s Autumn Theatre and was produced and directed by both teachers and pupils. A Hora do Gato was performed on the Portimão Cinema stage. This comedy told the story of a cat, two neighbours (one allergic to cats, another suicidal) and their friend who is a burglar.

Still to come, the Boa Esperança Athletic Club is staging O Santo Jogral Francisco – narrating five episodes in the life of Francisco de Assis – and As Desventuras de Isabella – a comedy that aims to recreate 17th century theatre and the spirit of the Renaissance. A Lição and Antígona will mark the end of the festival in November.
