Golf Santo António at Parque da Floresta, near Lagos, held its 28th consecutive Autumn Festival last week. The festival, which ran over six days with a number of events, Singles, Scramble, Pairs, Dubai and Am Am competitions, attracted well in excess of 600 entries – “by far the biggest turn out for a number of years,” said organisers.
The final evening included a gala dinner at restaurant Spike, and more than 160 prizes were distributed to the winners. After the dinner, Golf Santo António provided live entertainment and those in attendance danced the night away.
Golf Operations Manager, Brian Noble, said: “It had been slipping over the past few years and so we made a concerted effort to publicise the event early, and make the green fee and entry for visitors attractive, which clearly worked.”
This is now expected to be the catalyst for future events, such as the Christmas and Easter festivals. He added: “These are exciting times for the resort and, in particular, the golf. The twice-weekly competitions are beginning to attract far in excess of 50 players on a regular basis and visitors are always welcome. With this in mind, we have opened up a new membership category for 2015 ‘Choices’, where regular golfers do not have to commit to a full year if they so wish.”
