Following on from the horrifying account of a Dutchwoman’s body left to decompose in Faro due to an air-conditioning fault at the morgue (click here), news has surfaced of another disgrace.
In Coimbra, autopsies had to be put on hold for a day due a “plague of fleas” that had arrived on the corpse of a homeless person.
Correio da Manhã says “the problem was detected by the pathology service” at the Institute of Legal Medicine, which took the decision that “disinfection of the space was needed”.
Cleaning operations went ahead throughout Tuesday afternoon, with Wednesday morning given over to a “period of security”.
Once the ‘flea-clear’ was sounded, the service reopened on Wednesday afternoon, says the paper.
