The fourth “Obrigado, Bombeiros!” auction held on September 21 raised €5,200 for the Bombeiros of Lagoa and Silves, despite adverse weather conditions on the day.
Those who attended the live auction at Carvoeiro Tennis Club were generous in their response to the array of goods and services donated by local businesses. These included artwork, fine wines and dining, boat trips, rounds of golf and stays at five-star resorts in the Algarve, Lisbon, Edinburgh and Barcelona. Also, a show jacket donated by Sir Cliff Richard, which he wore in 1975 at the Albert Hall in London, will be auctioned online in the next few weeks.
Tombola, a raffle and stalls selling plants and second-hand goods all contributed to the funds raised. Homemade cakes, BBQ food and drinks were available, and the crowd was entertained throughout the afternoon and into the evening by live music acts.
Associação Obrigado Bombeiros is committed to raising funds for the local firefighters. This is the third event organised in 2019 and the goal of raising €12,000 this year has already been achieved with the group raising €12,378 through the three events and quiz nights organised thus far.
Event organiser Erika Meca said: “On behalf of Obrigado, Bombeiros! I would like to thank our numerous sponsors, volunteers and all who attended on the day. Without their support the event would not have been such a huge success.”
Funds raised at the auction will be divided equally between the Bombeiros of Lagoa and the Bombeiros of Silves.
