A GANG of thieves attempted to steal the cash machine situated in a Galp petrol station early on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at the petrol station on the EN 125 through Lagoa at 5.20am.
A spokesman for the Galp garage told The Resident: “The thieves tried to take the cash machine but were disturbed. No money was actually taken from the machine.”
According to the spokesman, the robbery involved six individuals who left the scene in an Audi vehicle.
It was confirmed that the Galp garage has CCTV as a security measure. “Images of the attempted robbery were captured on our CCTV security system, including images of the thieves,” said the spokesman for Galp.
The Lagoa GNR were called to the scene to investigate the attempted robbery, however, at the time of The Resident going to press no one was available from the Lagoa GNR for comment.
Meanwhile, in Zambujeira do Mar, near Odemira, Alentejo, two cash machines were also the focus of an attempted robbery in the early morning of Tuesday.
The machines, situated at a tourism information centre, were fixed into the wall making it difficult for robbers to steal.
António Rita, the president of the parish council, said: “They broke down the door that gives access to the cash machines but because they were secured to the wall they were unable to leave with any money.”
