An elderly Dutch couple on holiday in the Algarve have been attacked and robbed outside their holiday home in Quinta da Balaia, Albufeira on March 5, on the same day that GNR police dismantled what they described as a highly organised criminal network carrying out robberies across the Algarve.
GNR said that the couple, in their 80s, were returning to the property at 9.30pm on March 6 from an evening meal when they were attacked by an armed group of masked robbers.
The two tourists were threatened with guns and forced to hand over all money that they had with them, credit cards, debit cards and approximately €200 worth of valuables.
According to Correio da Manhã newspaper, the Quinta da Balaia urbanisation is supervised by a private security guard, but had not noticed suspicious movements in the area on the evening of the attack.
Police are currently investigating the crime.
